Roof top farming or Hydroponics?
Hi Friends, I stay at Mumbai, me and our society members are thinking of adopting Roof Top Farming or hydroponics. One of our friend gave us the basic idea and he has now flayed away to UK.
Is there anyone who can suggest us
1) should we do this or not
2) is it practically possible and feasible?
3) if yes, then how to and do we have any turnkey project provider in India?
Take Care, Friends.
Aquaponics is much better system as compared to Hydroponics. Aquaponics is essentially the combination of Aquaculture (growing fish) and Hydroponics (growing soilless plants). Both aquaculture and hydroponics have some down sides, hydroponics requires expensive nutrients to feed the plants, and also requires periodic flushing of the systems which can lead to waste disposal issues.
Re-circulating aquaculture needs to have excess nutrients removed from the system; normally this means that a percentage of the water is removed, generally on a daily basis. This nutrient rich water then needs to be disposed of and replaced with clean fresh water.
When we look at combining the two, these negative aspects are turned into positives. The positive aspects of both aquaculture and hydroponics are retained and the negative aspects no longer exist.
You can built your own aquaponic system, equipment used are those normally used in aquariums.
How to do it ? search youtube for aquaponics.

Hydroponics: Soilless Gardening Explained $25.75 Plants need nutrients, air, water, and light with a little warmth to survive. Traditionally these have been provided by soil, but hydroponic techniques allow plants not only to survive but also to thrive by gaining the perfect balance of nutrients from a regulated solution. This book looks at the flood and drain method, drip feed, Nutrient Film Technique, aeroponics, and aquaponics. It offers a detailed examination of nutrient content and the strength of solution, advice on how to grow a variety of plants and how to control pests, a simple-to-follow guide to how to arrange and automate a greenhouse, and step-by-step instruction on how to build your own hydroponic systems.
